Emmett McCarthy was born in New Haven, Connecticut one of the eight children of Peggy and David McCarthy, who lovingly encouraged their family to explore diverse interests in the arts, music, medicine and finance. Emmett graduated high school from The Educational Center for the Arts, in New Haven, and then attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.
In 1988, Emmett was awarded a BFA from Parson€™s The New School for Design. After working for several years in Europe as a fashion designer, Emmett returned to New York to continue his career. From 1992 to 2005, Emmett worked as a fashion design director for notable menswear design firms, and created runway collections for Bryant Park. This work served as brand direction for licenses and advertising campaigns.
In May of 2005, a fortuitous casting call landed Emmett on Project Runway’s, second season as a contestant. Subsequently, Tim Gunn, Chloe Dao and Kara Janx, were among the many friends and contributors who encouraged Emmett to follow his dream and launch his own line. Aided by a talented team of collaborators, advisors, and strategic partners, Emmett brought his vision to life and is currently expanding this collection into other categories and markets such as shoes and handbags. The EMc2 boutique is still at the heart of his creative strategy and is a working think tank for his design.
